Twitter to open its own data center

Twitter’s ongoing battle with the Fail Whale moves to a new front as the microblogging site announces plans to move into its own data center by the end of the year.

Outages galore forced Twitter to find a solution that goes behind cartoon sea life. The Salt Lake City area data center will house “a mixed-vendor environment for servers running open source OS and applications” and give the company “a much larger footprint in a building designed specifically around our unique power and cooling needs,” according to an official Twitter blog post.
