dollarsCNN has reported that America’s millionaires are on the rise again, after their ranks thinned out during the 2008 market meltdown. U.S. households worth $1 million or more grew to 7.8 million in 2009, up 16% from 2008, according to a survey from Spectrem Group, a Chicago-based market research and consulting firm.

The firm’s report, “Affluent Market Insights 2010,” also found that the number of ultra high-net-worth households, worth $5 million or more, jumped 17% to 980,000 in 2009. Read the rest of this entry »

Malema doesn’t pay taxes?

julius_malemaThe lawyer of ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has accused an SA Revenue Service (Sars) employee – who revealed that Malema has not submitted his tax returns in two years – of “unethical” behaviour.

Malema’s attorney, Tumi Mokwena, said yesterday: “It’s very unethical for any Sars member to divulge any information about someone to the media.”

City Press yesterday reported that four companies, of which Malema is a registered director and shareholder, were not “tax compliant”. Full article at TimesLive

Zuma’s Trip to Britain Comes to an End

ap_south_africa_zuma_britain_queen_elizabethSouth African President Jacob Zuma winds up a three-day visit to Britain today – a visit marked by pomp and ceremony as well as substantive political talks, including on the situation in Zimbabwe. President Zuma was given a royal welcome to Britain from Queen Elizabeth II Wednesday and in the busy three days that followed he met with Britain’s Prime Minister, parliamentarians, business leaders, and even made a trip to Wembley Stadium, the home of English football (soccer).

While in Britain, Mr. Zuma repeatedly highlighted the two countries historic economic and cultural ties. But two issues threatened to overshadow those links.  Full article Here
